Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserves

Chapter 1607 – (REAP of title 10, U.S. Code) is a new benefit providing educational assistance to members of the reserve components – Selected Reserve (Sel Res) and Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) – who are called or ordered to active service in response to a war or national emergency, as declared by the President or Congress.  National Guard members are eligible if their active service extends for 90 consecutive days or more and their service is:

 

                        1.  Authorized under section 502(f), title 32, U.S.C.

                        2.  Authorized by the President or Secretary of Defense for a national   

                             emergency.

3.      Supported by federal funds.

Documents needed for Chapter 1607: (If you have never used benefits before you will need the following documents)

22-1990 (application)

DD-2384 (Notice of Basic Eligibility (NOBE) obtained from your unit commander or company clerk)

DD-214 member 4(Release from active duty)

Copy of your orders to active duty under title 10, U.S. Code.

Note:  If VA educational benefits have been established under 1606 you will need to complete form 22-1995 to change your chapter.
