Welcome to the Office of Veterans Affairs

The Texas State University Office of Veterans Affairs assists veterans by answering questions concerning veteran educational benefits, certifying enrollments for the Department of Veterans Affairs, and monitoring our veterans' degree plans and academic progress.


Submission Deadlines

Submissions made after our first deadline are not guaranteed to be processed before the bill is due. You will need to monitor your bill and make other payment arrangements if necessary. Submissions made after Student Business Services (SBS) provides you a bill will not be processed before the bill is due. You will need to make other payment arrangements. Incomplete submissions will be cancelled after the Census date and the student will be required to come into the office to submit a new request for that semester.

GI Bill® Recipients

  • Open Elective courses will not be paid by the VA, and the student must contact their academic advisor to resolve this or pay out of pocket for those courses.
  • Open Elective courses will not count towards full time status by the VA, which may result in a reduced payment to the student.
  • The GI Bill® and Hazlewood exemption do not pay for dorm fees or meal cards.

Note: All documents must be submitted via our online request system. We will no longer accept documents via email, fax, or mail. If you hand carry it in, we will scan them, email them to you, and give the documents back. You are welcome to use our kiosk to upload them to your request.

Below is a list of each request status and an explanation of what they mean. If you have questions about your status, please refer to the chart before contacting us.

Status Explanation
Submitted by Student You have submitted a request to the Veterans Affairs Office. It will be reviewed in the order it was received.
Reviewed Your documents have been reviewed. They are correct and complete.
In Process Our office is working with Student Business Services to apply your benefits. Monitor your bill.
Certified Your GI benefit request has been sent to the Muskogee Regional Office. Please wait three business days before calling them with questions.
Amending Hours/fees adjustments are being sent to the VBA.
Complete Veterans Affairs Office has completed your request.
Incomplete
Pending
Denied
Cancelled
